Chihuahua Parade - May 5, 2013 in Kansas City, MO

Kansas City, MO – Cinco de Mayo and Chihuahuas in costume is a perfect fit. That was proven last year by the world-wide response to Kansas City’s attempt to break The Guinness Book of World Records for “Most Dogs In Costume.” Kansas City is getting ready to dress up the dogs and do it again.

Barney Allis Plaza will be the spot for the May 5^th event. “It is the perfect Downtown  venue,” says promoter, Mark Valentine. “There is lots of parking. There is plenty of green space. The setting will be a great backdrop for all the crazy pictures of dogs in costume.”

The Annual Chihuahua Parade is sublimely ridiculous, but it has a serious goal to make Kansas City a No-Kill Community. The $5 entry fee per dog all goes to The Great Plains SPCA who just opened their second shelter in the Metro area.

Chihuahuas are the oldest companion dog in The Americas. Not only do they predate The Mayans, now they have survived the end date of that famous calendar.

All dogs in costume are welcome. The Guinness World Record is not breed specific, but there will be a vet on site to verify that they are all dogs. Last year there was at least one pig in costume. St. Louis holds the Guinness record with 1,326.

All entrants will receive something. A larger prize package is being assembled for the winning costumed Chihuahua. When you register in advance, you will receive a number in The Chihuahua Parade and all the information you need. Organizers ask that you arrive by 11am for the Parade at Noon. Live music from Valentine and The Knights will keep the Cinco de Mayo event going until late afternoon.

1mile - 9:00 am
Expo  - 8:00 am - 12:00 pm

The event starts and finishes at  the Marin Center Fairgrounds and Lagoon Park -

The Petco 5k9 Walk RunTM presented by Purina ProPlan is the national walk/run series open to both people and pets! At 8am the 5K walk/run starts and awards will be given out at 10am. Stick around afterwards to see all the vendors who will be there, some will be selling the latest and greatest pet products, some will have information about how to enrich your dog’s life, and others may even have some fun games for you and your pup to participate in. This promises to be a fun day!
