Aflatoxin Contamination

Warning to dog and cat owners - According to Scientific American this past week, last year's drought could still suggest a higher risk of deadly aflatoxin contamination for many corn-based kibbles. That's because Midwest farmers could "blend off tainted supplies held in storage". Since much of the grain is just now entering the food supply, there's a growing potential for more pet food recalls already baked into the cake. Pet food companies are aware of this issue and the quality-oriented ones are likely working to avoid contamination. Our recommendation? Be alert, stay informed and share this news with other pet owners, too. This Scientific American Magazine article describes the developing situation. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=grain-handlers-wary-of-toxin-linger
